Acrylic paint is a relatively new medium, only becoming commercially available in the United States about sixty-five years ago. I find the medium to be highly versatile and effective - encouraging artistic experimentation and innovation.
Acrylics can be made to appear opaque or transparent, and depending on how the paint is applied, an artwork may resemble an oil or watercolor painting. And, if the paint is applied thickly, a deep three dimensional effect can be achieved.
Acrylic paints can be used on many different surfaces - cloth, wood, paper and canvas to name a few. Additionally, there's a dazzling array of colors and specialty items like iridescent, fluorescent, and metallic paints, further promoting artistic creativeness.
What I like best about acrylic paint is that it is water-based and
odorless. Also, I like that it dries very quickly, making it easy for me
to modify
the painting in a short period of time, or I can move on to another
piece. Clean up is easy. Brushes clean up very well with soap
and
cool or warm water.
It is obvious that I find acrylic paints to be a stimulating, easy to use, and motivational medium. Hopefully, my enthusiasm for this means of expression translates into appealing paintings for you to enjoy.
